We face a rising cost of living in Hawaii worsened by our reliance on costly imported food, energy, and other necessities. We must end our dependence on imports and be reinvesting locally to build a more resilient economy, create jobs here, and lower our cost of living. We must ensure fair wages for fair work and make it affordable to live here. While tackling these issues Chris has consistently put the interests of people first while challenging the status quo in Hawaii. He has successfully worked across the aisle leading bipartisan coalitions, and passed nearly 100 bills to help solve Hawaii’s pressing challenges.

Chris has been the recipient of multiple national awards and has been recognized by both Democratic President Barack Obama and Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger for his work. This year he was named Hawaii's "Ocean Champion" by environmental organizations for his work protecting reefs and beaches, and "Defender of Democracy" by Common Cause Hawaii for passing laws to help stop corruption and take money out of politics.
