Saving Our Kailua 4th of July Tradition

When the Kailua Chamber of Commerce began looking for new sponsors to help with Kailua’s annual 4th of July fireworks display, the community was quick to respond. A group of local residents rose to the challenge, and with the help and support of our local businesses, community groups, and our elected officials, we were able to continue our sixty-plus year tradition of celebrating the 4th of July with a fireworks display at Kailua Beach.
Over the last few years we were able to raise about $50,000 each year to put on the show. We sold shave ice in front of Times Supermarket to kick off our fundraising, and had a tremendous community response. This year’s fireworks show was the best yet, but if we are going to continue the tradition, we will need to raise money for next year all over again. Go to www.kailuafireworks.com to see what you can do to help us keep this special event a tradition here in Kailua.
